One more candle to light on our Advent Wreath! I’ve been taking basic ideas from Hebrews for each theme as we’ve moved toward that final candle, the Christ Candle. We looked at Love last week. One of the concepts presented there is; we are to “spur one another on to love and good works” Heb. 10:24. My horse, Buck, responded to spurs when as a kid I was training him. But eventually, he got so he knew what I wanted and he just did it! Our relationship was much better that way. The questions we asked was, “How do you spur someone else on to love?” As we look at Christ’s life we discovered He did it by living an effective example. We also found the writer emphasizing how as we love the right way and the right things God’s promise is, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” Heb. 13:5. Our relationship is much better that way!
Christmas Eve is just ahead and I’m excited! We have a very special Candlelight Service planned beginning at 9:30 pm on Saturday. I hope you’re planning to join us for some fellowship and the joy of singing Christmas Carols and for the lighting the Christ Candle.
I hope I’ll also get to greet you on Christmas Eve. But in any case, I want to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas. This has been a year of His great favor! I look forward to what He has in store for us in the year ahead. But for now, let’s focus on Jesus the one whose birth we celebrate as the center of our season and of our life all year long. Joy to you!
