The Advent Candle of Love

Last Sunday evening we had a great time celebrating the aspect of JOY as part of our Advent Season.  We went caroling, had a good number of guests join us, and our worship time followed (and preceded) by hot chocolate, coffee, and cookies provided us with a time of joy-filled fellowship.

This week our focus will be on LOVE.  As Christians we look at the arrival of the Christ Child as the greatest expression of God’s love for the world.  Through His coming and ultimate sacrifice on the cross God offers us His Son for our redemption from sin.  Even while we are still rebellious and far from Him, He offers us this gift!  Our repentance and then loving Him in return is our joyful response.

Love is so many things.  It’s a rational act of the will, it’s a feeling, and it’s a sense of giving and receiving mutual appreciation that makes us know we “belong.”  It’s what a congregation like ours seeks to express to each other and to our community.  We want others to know of God’s love.  We show that by extending our love to them and by loving each other.  So we come to light the Advent Candle that represents love.  One of the great dimensions of our Christmas Season.

Our final Advent Candle will be lite on Christmas Eve when we come together to light the Christ Candle.  We’re planning a special candlelight service that Saturday evening at 9:30 pm with fellowship, special music, and sharing in song as part the program.  Come join us for this celebration of Christ’s birth.  Pastor Marv
